Climate Governance Conference: NGT International Conference 2026
The Climate Governance Conference will begin in New Delhi on 19 September 2026. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the International Conference on “The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics” at about 10 AM at Vigyan Bhawan.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) is organising the two-day conference on 19 and 20 September 2026. The event will bring together environmental experts, judges, senior officials and other stakeholders to discuss major environmental and climate-related challenges.
Climate Governance Conference brings global judicial perspectives
The conference will include Judges of the Supreme Court of India and High Courts, District Court Judges, Ministry Secretaries and senior government officials. Representatives from State Judicial Academies and State Legal Services Authorities will also participate.
In addition, the event will include representatives from State Expert Appraisal Committees (SEACs), State Environment Impact Assessment Authorities (SEIAAs) and State Wetland Authorities. Other stakeholders involved in environmental governance will also attend.
International participation and institutional cooperation
Eminent Judges and judicial representatives from 17 countries will participate in the conference. Their presence will support the exchange of judicial approaches and institutional experiences across different jurisdictions.
The conference will also connect scientific knowledge with environmental governance practices. Participants will examine challenges related to policy formulation, implementation and enforcement.
The discussions will focus on gaps in existing approaches and ways to strengthen environmental governance. They will also explore greater institutional cooperation in addressing environmental and climate concerns.
The conference is therefore designed as a platform for dialogue among the judiciary, government institutions, scientific experts and other stakeholders. Its discussions will cover both environmental challenges and the institutional mechanisms needed to address them effectively.
