6th All India Official Language Conference 2026 in Mumbai

The Official Language Conference will be held in Mumbai alongside Hindi Diwas 2026 on September 14. Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will address the inaugural session of the two-day programme.

The Department of Official Language under the Ministry of Home Affairs has organised All India Official Language Conferences annually since 2021. The initiative began in Varanasi and later reached Surat, Pune, New Delhi and Gandhinagar. This year, the conference is being held in Maharashtra.

Official Language Conference highlights Hindi and Indian languages

During the inaugural session, Amit Shah will present the Rajbhasha Gaurav and Rajbhasha Kirti Awards for 2025–26. These awards recognise institutions and individuals for outstanding contributions to the field of Official Language.

A major feature will focus on the National Song Vande Mataram. Discussions will examine its historical, literary and cultural dimensions. Several publications will also be launched, including a commemorative issue of Rajbhasha Bharati centred on Vande Mataram.

The programme will also discuss the role of Town Official Language Implementation Committees (TOLICs/NARAKAS) in implementing Official Language Hindi at the grassroots level. Outstanding NARAKAS will receive recognition.

A special exhibition will feature 32 stalls from institutions, organisations, banks and ministries. The conference will also showcase Maharashtra’s linguistic, cultural and literary traditions.

Article 343 of the Constitution provides for Hindi in Devanagari script as the Official Language of the Union. Article 351 assigns the Union responsibility for promoting, developing and enriching Hindi.

The conference will therefore strengthen coordination, dialogue and partnership among Hindi and other Indian languages. Its sessions will cover language development, translation, technology, literature and wider dissemination of Hindi.
