Mukutban Gadchandur Line : ₹493 Crore Rail Project Approved
The Mukutban Gadchandur Line has received approval from Indian Railways. The 38.21 km new rail line will cost ₹493 crore. It will connect Mukutban in Yavatmal district with Gadchandur in Chandrapur district.
The project falls under South Central Railway. Both locations serve important industrial and mining clusters. These include cement plants, Western Coalfields Ltd. coal mines and nearby limestone mines. The new line will improve freight movement to these centres.
Mukutban Gadchandur Line to shorten freight routes
The new route will reduce travel distance and transportation time. It will also lower related transportation costs. In addition, it will provide an alternative route to the Wardha-Manikgarh section.
According to the Detailed Project Report, the line is expected to handle 6.08 MTPA of freight. Two MEMU trains in each direction are also expected to operate daily after commissioning.
Expected freight includes coal and coke, cement and sponge iron. Other commodities include metal scrap, iron and steel, fertilisers and foodgrains.
Direct connectivity to major destinations
The line will connect the coal and cement cluster with the Majri-Nanded route. It will provide shorter leads for coal, cement and RMSP traffic. These movements will serve Jalna, Parbhani and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Other destinations in Maharashtra and Karnataka will also benefit.
The project will reduce dependence on the congested Balharshah-Nagpur High-Density Network route. It will also improve connectivity in relatively less-connected areas of Yavatmal and Chandrapur.
The new corridor will add capacity to the regional railway network. It will support passenger and freight requirements. The Mukutban Gadchandur Line is also expected to improve network utilisation. It will strengthen industrial and economic activity through better rail infrastructure.
