OPEC India Energy Dialogue Strengthens Cooperation

The OPEC India Energy Dialogue held its seventh High-Level Meeting on 22 September 2026 in New Delhi. India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, and OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais co-chaired the meeting.

The discussions covered oil market stability, energy security and investment across the oil industry. Both sides also reviewed short-, medium- and long-term energy outlooks.

India highlighted its growing role in global economic expansion and energy demand. Puri stressed that producers and consumers need sustained dialogue to support investment and reliable energy supplies.

He also described India and OPEC as having a complementary relationship. India values its longstanding engagement with OPEC and its member countries, he said.

Energy Security and Global Cooperation

Al Ghais said dialogue with India remains a priority for OPEC. He noted that India’s importance in the global energy landscape is expected to increase in the coming decades.

The Secretary General also recalled that the dialogue began in New Delhi in 2015. Thus, the partnership has continued for 11 years by 2026.

The meeting also discussed global energy-market stability amid geopolitical uncertainties and market volatility. Both sides emphasised the importance of cooperation, transparency and predictable energy markets.

The participants reviewed progress achieved through the dialogue, including technical-level cooperation. They also stressed the need for deeper collaboration on energy-related issues.

The OPEC India Energy dialogue concluded with an agreement to hold the 8th High-Level Meeting in Vienna, Austria, on a mutually convenient date.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of continued India-OPEC engagement on energy security, investment and global oil-market stability. The OPEC India Energy partnership therefore remains an important platform for energy cooperation.
