India Ethiopia Partnership Strengthened at BRICS Summit
India Ethiopia Partnership : Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali in New Delhi on 12 September 2026. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit, hosted by India under its chairship.
India Ethiopia Partnership Gets Fresh Momentum
The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral Strategic Partnership. Their talks covered several important areas, including economic cooperation, defence and security, and capacity building.
The meeting also reviewed progress made in these sectors. It built on Prime Minister Modi’s historic visit to Addis Ababa in December 2025, which provided further momentum to bilateral engagement.
Both leaders exchanged views on regional and international developments of mutual interest. They also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close cooperation in multilateral forums.
Ethiopia’s Role in BRICS
Prime Minister Modi appreciated Ethiopia’s participation in the 18th BRICS Summit. He highlighted the importance of Ethiopia’s presence in strengthening the collective voice of the Global South.
Ethiopia’s participation also added significance to discussions involving developing countries and their shared interests in multilateral platforms.
The meeting reflected India and Ethiopia’s continued efforts to deepen cooperation across strategic areas. It also highlighted the importance of regular high-level engagement between the two countries.
The India Ethiopia Partnership received further attention through discussions on economic ties, defence and security cooperation, capacity building, and coordination in multilateral forums. The engagement at the BRICS Summit therefore provided another opportunity for both countries to advance their Strategic Partnership.
